Reborn With a New Job
Oh for the joy of having life reborn with hope and faith again, isn’t it wonderful when you feel wanted. Leaving the Cheyvo Gulag was a great relief and I had also had put my resume out and about a bit as I had gotten lots of contacts during the two trips to the Russian camp. That project had made me realize that there was more to life than just making money, I had felt completely miserable and almost depressed. I was determined to get a proper job,
So I had been contacted by one of the agencies after I had gotten home and they had organized an interview with some big wig in the “Paris” office, I wasn’t impressed, I don’t get impressed much these days. So I got the call the next Monday morning, he was a soft spoken American and we were chatting about the progress of the project and what sort of work had been done so far and where some testing work was going to be. He then started asking me about some technical stuff and I thought this was the test it wasn’t difficult stuff and we started agreeing on some problems he had been having and I was feeling quite relaxed, I didn’t feel under any pressure at all and after 30 minutes or so he then told me I was going to be recommended for the post, I just felt he had already thought my background was perfect for the job and that he was just reassuring himself that I fit the role, having worked with lots of project manager over the last few years that you find that most of them are not necessarily technically gifted people but very nice people, to be a manager you have to be able to slide in amongst the other people and not be a pain in the ass, team work is what it is called and it has only just dawned on me why that is so important, as if you are constantly pissing people off nothing ever gets done and then someone will stab you in the back as some point. So me being Mr Smoothy I made this guy feel comfortable and that I was able to fit into this team. His team being Qatargas, the job is rotating equipment engineer in the world’s biggest Liquified Natural Gas plant in Qatar. I have been offered a 3 year contract to supervise the construction and installation and start up of these units, I get a house and a car and flights home once a year and a few other minor perks. This job is a regular on 40 hours a week working 36 weeks a year and living only 20 miles from the job, this will be the most relaxing job I have ever had in my entire life. I was born for this job and even though the country is very hot and dry, I love the heat and cold make me feel miserable. I have checked out the Qatar embassy website for pictures and lots of other sites. OK, OK, I know it is a dry desert and it is hot but it is close to other interesting parts of the world that are close, it is tax free and I bet gasoline is very cheap. Anyhow the most critical part of this is that it gives me the title of Rotating equipment engineer on my resume and that will men I can get any job on turbines anywhere in the world after this 3 year stint. So it is a job I cannot refuse. Plus I can learn to sleep properly again after so many years suffering jetlag and crappy camp food,
Let the Life begin
