Big Weather In The Jungle

We all know that the Amazon is a tropical rainforest and I was very excited to come and work here but I never really understood the meaning of tropical rainforest. It can rain here for 12 hours overnight. The storms that sweep through here nearly on a daily basis are monstrous and the deluge can be enormous. It is a fact of life that all the creatures have evolved here to cope with this sort of phenomenon but I fear that humans think they can manipulate the environment here to be able to make a living in it, this is a delusional attitude to have and only total destruction of the forest will occur if they think they can tame it and grown crops and cattle, it is fragile and unstable. We had a minor flooding incident here which shows you how bad things can get, the river rose nearly 30 feet to flood the higher loading dock and this has never been seen here before, it is possible with an enormous downpour that we could even get the river to flood the plant but that would be a 1 in a 1 million year event but it can happen. It makes you feel so small and insignificant to witness the rain and storms here. The Amazon is quite special and should be left for the animals.
